Our company was founded in 1887, six years after the great Chicago Fire, to help churches protect their property. After the ravages of the fire, many insurance companies refused to insure churches with large steeples or charged the owners unbelievably high rates, as large steeples attracted lightning. This put many congregations at risk. A group of kindhearted businessmen formed a mutual aid society to protect churches and property from fire–founding our company.

Throughout the years, we have added coverages, expanded the number of states where we conduct business, and use the latest technology to make it easier for agents and our customers to do business with us. Today, you can manage your account, report a claim, and pay your premiums online.

While our company may continue to grow a bit larger, the “small town” feel of Badger Mutual will never be replaced. We believe that our position as a regional insurance carrier gives us a major advantage over the larger companies. That’s because our agents and staff take the time to get to know you and your unique challenges—then customize insurance programs just for you. And should you have a claim, you’ll be talking to real people, not an anonymous 800 number.
